_ BOARD DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM
The Southern Nevada Workforce Investment Board will design a system that is inclusive of:
Creating and maintaining a flexible, highly skilled workforce that will perpetuate a continuous competitive edge for local business.
Expanding the breath and depth of partner involvement in a collaborative manner within the workforce system to maximize optimum customer service.
Fostering efforts that shall increase personal income and shall increase business capital.
Ensuring that the local workforce investment system is the "first choice" for all job seeker, workers and employers in Southern Nevada who are in need of employment and training services.

BOARD MEMBERSHIP
The Southern Nevada Workforce Investment area is comprised of 32 members. The Workforce Investment Act requires that a majority of board members must be representatives from the private sector. Members representing businesses must be individuals who are owners, chief executive officers, chief operating officers or other individuals with optimum policy-making or hiring authority, Private sector and business trade associations, Public sector members represent the required partners in the One-Stop system. Additionally, two representatives each are appointed from economic development, education, organized labor and community-based organizations. The Board elects its own chair from among the private sector representatives. |

BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The Board is charged with implementing workforce investment activities throughout Southern Nevada. Generally these include (1) increasing occupational skill attainment to improve the quality of the workforce, (2) reducing welfare dependency and (3) enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of the nation's economy. The Board is responsible for grant administration, providing policy guidance and conducting oversight of all workforce activities.
